Offending the Little Ones

|
67:17 minutes (8.67 MB)

Offending the Little Ones (Mat 18:1-14)

I. This study should be both convicting and edifying. The following should be accomplished:
1. Understand what is meant by “offending” and “despising” little children.
2. Learn how to not offend and despise little children.
3. Learn how Mat 18:8-9 fits with the rest of Mat 18:1-14.

II. The reason for Jesus’ discourse.

1. The disciples asked who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven (Mat 18:1).
A. They had been reasoning among themselves about who should be the greatest (Luk 9:46).

Alive Without the Law (Part 1)

|
56:46 minutes (11.85 MB)

Alive Without the Law (Rom 7:9)

I. The purpose of this study is to provide a proper Biblical understanding of Rom 7:7-13 and to answer the following questions:
1. Was Paul referring to being spiritually alive (in possession of eternal life) when he said that he was "alive without the law once"?
2. Was Paul referring to living in sinless innocence prior to the law coming to him when he wrote "without the law sin was dead"?
3. Did Paul die spiritually when the commandment came and sin revived and slew him?
4. If not, then what kind of death was he referring to?

Alive Without the Law (Part 2)

|
69:58 minutes (14.48 MB)

VI. "Sin...slew me" and "I died" -- What was this death?
1. Sin had been laying dormant in Paul, deceiving him (Rom 7:11).
A. Deceive - v. 1. trans. To ensnare; to take unawares by craft or guile; to overcome, overreach, or get the better of by trickery; to beguile or betray into mischief or sin; to mislead.
B. Sin had deceived Paul by making him think he was alive and righteous.
C. Like the people of Laish who dwelt carelessly, quiet and secure, because there was no magistrate in the land to put them to shame (Jdg 18:7): so it was with Paul.

All Things to All Men (Part 1)

|
58:12 minutes (12.05 MB)

All Things to All Men (1Co 9:19-23)
I. Overview.
1. Being free from all men, but a servant to all.
2. Becoming as a Jew to the Jews.
3. Becoming as a Gentile to the Gentiles.
4. Becoming as weak to the weak.
5. Being all things to all men to save some and be a partaker of the gospel with them.
II. Being free from all men, but a servant to all. (1Co 9:19)
1. Paul begins this chapter by asking the rhetorical question: am I not free? (1Co 9:1)
2. This answer is obviously "yes" as Paul states in verse 19.
3. How was Paul free from all men?

All Things to All Men (Part 2)

|
65:36 minutes (13.54 MB)

V. Becoming as them that are without law (Gentiles) to them that are without law.
1. Them that are without law are the Gentiles. (Rom 2:12-14)
2. Them that are without also refers to unbelievers who are outside the church. (1Co 5:12-13)
3. Paul became as a Gentile to the Gentiles so that he could identify with them.
A. Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles. (Rom 11:13)
B. When Paul preached Christ to the Gentiles, he didn't use the same manner as he did with the Jews by going to the law to show that Jesus was Christ, he rather reasoned with them from creation.

Jonah 4

|
63:12 minutes (13.02 MB)

vs. 1-9.
A. Apostles (ACT 14:15) and prophets (JAM 5:17) were men of passions as other men; they were
not supermen.
1. passion: Any kind of feeling by which the mind is powerfully affected or moved; a
vehement, commanding or overpowering emotion.
2. Jonah was particularly driven by passion: displeased exceedingly, very angry (v. 1);
despondent (v. 3); exceeding glad (v. 6); despondent, angry (v. 9).
3. His emotionalism put him in a position not unlike that which he seems to have hoped
would be the fate of Nineveh. PRO 25:28.

III. Section 2 - Mat 24:14-29 c/w (Mar 13:10-25; Luk 21:14-26)
1. In this section of verses, Jesus focuses on the disciples' primary questions: "when shall these things be?" and "what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?" in which they were referring to what Jesus said about the buildings of the temple being destroyed (Mat 24:1-3; Mar 13:4).

Olivet Discourse (Part 3) - Mat 24:23-31

6. Jesus then warns them again as He did in Mat 24:5,11 that false Christs and false prophets would arise who would show great signs and wonders, whom they should not believe (Mat 24:23-28).
A. Consider the following from Josephus which confirms Jesus' words, that false prophets arose and that great signs and wonders were seen prior to the destruction of Jerusalem:

V. Section 4 - Mat 24:32-35 c/w (Mar 13:28-31; Luk 21:28-33) - The parable of the fig tree.
1. After answering the question of what the sign of His coming and the end of the world would be, Jesus then returns to the question "when shall these things be" (the destruction of Jerusalem).
A. It was as if He said, "Now let me get back to your original question of when the temple will be destroyed".
